Preparation of sevai

From, 30.10.2009 S. Shankar E-4/3, D R D O Township C V Raman Nagar, Bangalore 560093 Ph: 080-32921105 e-mail:shankarsume@yahoo.com To M/s NuHome Innovations Pvt. Ltd. 121/3A, Gandhi Nagar, Udayampalayam, Coimbatore 641006 Dear Sir, Ref: Your bill Nos M466 & M 467 dated 08.11.2008 Basing on the information available on the net and also information through some Tamil news magazine, I had decided to purchase few pieces of your unit "Sevai Magic". Accordingly, I placed an order for four pieces of the unit to be given as compliments on occasions that are family functions to a few. Feedback from them: 1) Out of four pieces that I gave as compliment, three pieces have been returned to me with a big "THANKS" with sincere advice to me that the machine is too complicated and the user need to wait with bated breadth whether sevai will come or not. This heightened the tension at the kitchen level personnel. No excuse is permitted if the product increases the tension at that sector. I summarize their feedback. 1) Even a small error in proper placement of the casket ring on the shaft, results in sevai not coming and instead the dough gets pissed out resulting in waste / tension. 2) Washing after every use is really cumbersome and takes time. 3) The top lid with attendant attachment is very lengthy and cleaning at the kitchen sink is difficult as the length is large compared to the normal sink bottom to the tap. 4) When the sevai magik cooker is kept on the stove, real attention is needed for about 30 minutes till the stove is switched off. 5) Handling the sevai when the steam / cooker is very hot can be avoided. I feel that possibly one person had not bothered to return the unit to me fearing too much of embarrassment that may create. When I cross checked and made use of the machine, all the comments appear to be true. The length of the sevai also though initially lengthy, it soon get cut resulting in small stone like image. The sevai need to be straight and not twisted or winded. Then I demonstrated the manual sevai machine that I have been using for over seven years regularly, they asked me to get a piece like the one which is manual, affordable, consistent, hydraulically operated, above all even a child can press the lever. The reason why I am giving you the above information / comments, means, sevai being a traditional, very likeable product by the people and your company can popularize the same by making the sevai making process / output as easily as possible without cumbersome work / minute attention. My manual machine is safe, needs no pressure and hence no tension. By all means the length of the sevai will be as long as 6 inches and it does not crack / cut. If you can produce a machine similar to the one, then I can assure you that there will be a huge potential for the popularity of the sevai from the people. My view on the product: 1) Separate the process of steam baking the dough from the process of making actual sevai. In this process, you can avoid pressure cooker atmosphere at the kitchen. 2) Make a machine either manual / automated through motor thereby; the baked ball shaped dough can be put manually at the specified slot. 3) Instead of manufacturing a specified cooker, make use of the household cookers available at every body and manufacture a product to bake the dough and after steam baking transfer the dough with the vessel / container to the sevai presser thereby even handling the hot rice ball by hand. 4) By making steamed rice balls of about 50 gms, a person can obtain desired number of containers and steam bake it in the traditional way ( as idly is being done) and transfer the container to the presser for making sevai. 5) Make the cleaning process simpler and ensure that the parts that actually carry the dough alone need to be washed. 6) If motorized presser is provided, the steamed rice balls may be of weight higher than the normal ball size as the motor pressure will be higher to press the lever and force the sevai to come out. In this way quantity of output also will be higher at a shorter duration. Note: out of various items / gifts I have been giving as compliments to various people, I have the pleasure of getting back the gifts only in your case gives ample indication of the unit. I do not find any inferior product quality, but the output is not to the liking / process of making should be much simpler. Besides, the people tend to imagine “SEVAI” as traditionally made and the they expect the same texture / finish / taste. Etc even if it is prepared through your sevai magik. The above suggestions are made for better product development. Kindly get back to me on the feedback. With regards, shankar

Cleaning of Sevai Dye

Hi, Is there any mechanism to clean the sevai dye QUICKLY after every cycle? This I find very difficult especially to clean the holes of the dye, and reuse. I have to soak the dye for 5 min in water and then use a brush to clean the holes, during which I waste lots of time. I feel I dont save time compared to the regular one, when cleaning between cycles is taken into account.

Reasons for not Marketing without a cooker

Dear Sir, Thanks for your suggestions regarding - cutting costs. There are several reasons for not Marketing Automatic Sevai Maker without a Cooker. The MAIN REASON was, every House-hold has Pressure Cookers with different Dimensions ( 5l, 7.5l, 10l & 12l), different Brands ( more than 20 manufacurers ), and different models ( Pan type, internal closing lid type etc ), But our Sevai Maker MUST have a STANDARD SIZE/MODEL/DIMENSION Pressure Cooker to work, which each house-hold doesn't have. So, its impossible to FIT the Sevai Maker into our own regular cooker. Then again we have to take into account other issues like SAFETY/FEASIBILITY ETC.,. Here we have to appreciate that the SevaiMagik Automatic cooker is invented to make Sevai Automatically in a Single Step using the Pressure Cooker PRINCIPLE. Also,SevaiMagik comes with an additional lid to make use as a regular pressure cooker. We invite customers for demonstrations by appointment in our Office regularly. Also, we have participated in Exhibitions and Club demo. Thanks again for your suggestions and specifically for choosing to write here, as this will not only help you, but other users as well. If you still have any clarifications, you are welcome to call our support team at 0422-3206188 / 94426 09823 during 10 AM and 7 PM on working days

Cutting costs

The sevai magik looks like a blessing. But price is too much that people may think about buying it. In this context, I would suggest that the machine may be marketed with out the cooker. This will make the price less and affordable and also many might think about buying this magik. People can use the machine inthe cooker they already have. Also arrange to have demostrations during exhibitions and in apartments. You can invite people to call you for demo (they can call their friends then and many people would be watching).

Possible reasons for sevai not coming out

Dear Sir, Thanks for letting us know the problem. There are three possible reasons for this to happen: please check in the order of priority as below: 1. Please ensure that only good parboiled rice, soaked and wet-ground to a fine paste. Some homes use semi-par-boiled (in Tamil 'arai vEkkAdu' அரைவேக்காடு) rice to make idli/dosai. This will not work well with SevaiMagik. Also please check for presence of bits of rice grain (குருணை) in the batter. 2. Have you removed the Piston Gasket after the first use and refitted it before the next use? If so, it is possible that the Piston Gasket got reversed. Please look for the indication 'TOP' in the Gasket and ensure this. We would advise that you keep this Gasket on the Middle vessel permanently, as there is no need for removal of this. Also, please check if the main cooker Gasket has suffered any damage and the cooker fails to develop pressure because of this. 3. Lastly, a very remote possibility, but still we ask you to check: The six holes in the center of the six rivets (around which the patent info etc. are engraved) should be free from blocks. If for some reason these holes are blocked by spilled batter or some other material, then also the sevai may not come out. Thanks again for your feedback and specifically for choosing to write here, as this will not only help you, but other users as well. If you still have any issues, you are welcome to call our support team at 0422-3206188 during 10 AM and 7 PM on working days.

Sevai preparation problem

Hi, We purchased Sevaimagik about 2 months back. After seeing the VCD for the preparation procedure, We tried. Everything went smoothly. We had wonderful sevai. Our 2nd attempt went for a six. After 20 minutes of instructed time, We removed the plastic closure and put on whistle. The Sevai didn't turn up.After waiting for 10 minutes, We switched off the gas. That day we had more batter. After checking the VCD again for the procedure, We tried for the 2nd time with the same result. When we open, the batter is in perfectly boiled condition, we used the traditional equipment to create sevai (Using hand driven). What are the possible things that I can check to avoid this problem? I have checked gasket position, size of the water level, time to boil, batter level inside all as per VCD's instructions. Any help will be highly appreciated. Regards R Balaji

I wanted to know the thickness of the SEVA. Some of the readymade it is thick. But homemade seva is very thin. So please let me know the thickness/approx.dia at the earliest. Moreover, is there any chance to block the holes. Is there any chance of comming the steam out thro" the cooker side walls. Please announce the area wise dealer network, service centers-it must very near to the dealer/attached. If a customer purchases the SEVA MAKER from nearer to his residence, some times he must go miles together for the service purpose, if required. So you must avoid this and appoint service points near the dealer area. Dev
